Soph X Revolution – Extra Spice, Lipstick and Body Mist

Soph X Revolution – Extra Spice, Lipstick and Body Mist

If you’re new here you might not realise that I really, really, really like Makeup Revolution as a brand.

They create really good quality makeup for drugstore prices and they have been compared to the likes of Urban Decay and Too Faced in terms of style and quality.

What’s not to love? I can get my beauty fix at a fraction of the price!

Another not so well kept secret is I really like Soph Does Nails on YouTube. This one maybe isn’t so obvious unless you know me and we’ve had the “makeup” discussion or you’ve found me catching up on her videos!

She seems pretty genuine and I trust her reviews on products.

She has already had a collaboration with Revolution a few years ago where she worked on a highlighter and an eyeshadow palette.

I am a fan of her eyeshadow palette and I used it almost daily until I ran out of time to do my makeup every day!

Her new collection includes another eyeshadow palette, 3 lipsticks and a body mist so, of course, I had to pick them up!

Like me, Soph really likes her food and this is evident through her entire collection. I think it’s a nice touch and ties the products together nicely.

The packaging also links everything together with a rose gold and nude colour scheme with her signature on all the products.

The Extra Spice eyeshadow palette has 18 shades which is 6 less than the original but the shade names are embossed on the packaging rather than on a silly plastic sheet which I’m sure everyone loses after 5 minutes!

It makes the palette feel much more high end than its predecessor and for the luxury of shade names you pay the same price of £10.00 which, let’s face it, is not expensive for what you’re getting!

The eyeshadow themselves are, for the most part, the quality and pigmentation you would expect if you have tried any Revolution products before.

There is the odd shade (Brownies I’m looking at you!) which applies a little patchier than the rest or isn’t as pigmented as it looks in the pan but all the colours are buildable and blend really well.

One thing I did notice is that the Extra Spice colours did crease on my eyelid throughout the day which is something I never noticed with the original.

I’d say Extra Spice is much bolder than the original. It has its nude colours and transition shades but there are pops of colour to make a bold look too.

The layout is intentional as you have you’re bolder colours in the left half of the palette and the more subdued colours on the right.

It’s easier to see which colours would work better if you’re looking to experiment but unsure where to start.

I think with both palettes in your collection you have a great range of shades and would be able to be quite versatile with your looks.

I’m hoping she might come out with a cooler toned palette as well to complete the collection as both of these are quite warm to neutral so it would be a nice touch for me and my cool toned sisters out there!

The lipsticks are called Cake, Syrup and Fudge (I told you she liked her food!) and they are £4.00 each.

I only picked up one shade – Cake 🍰 – as I’m not the biggest fan of normal lipsticks any more but was really wanting to see what the formula was like.

The shade is the perfect “my lips but better shade” and I love it for that reason!

It doesn’t feel drying or sticky when it’s on and didn’t leave my lips feeling dry when I removed it.

With it being a normal lipstick, it does transfer a lot do require a lot more top ups through the day than a liquid lipstick.

Its hard to photograph but you can just see her signature in the lipstick itself which is quite cute!

As an aside – the above picture has been used my Revolution Spain, Portugal and Italy on Twitter and Instagram which I’m pretty proud of as it didn’t think it was anything special when I posted it!

Lastly we have the body mist in the scent Vanilla & Crème brulé (surprised?).

This I £8.00 which I thought it was quite expensive but you get 236ml which will last for ages!

As it’s a body mist, I don’t think the smell lasts for very long but then it could be because I’m used to it.

The scent is right up my street. It smells sweet and cakey as you would expect but isn’t cloying at all.

The downside is it does make me a tad hungry, but then, I’m always hungry! 🤣

I love this collection and you can grab it from Superdrug and the Revolution website.

*Breaking News!* As I was checking the website for prices, I noticed Superdrug has a Soph’s favourite collection which features lipsticks, eyeshadows, highlighters and brushes.

There’s a Soph palette in there that looks interesting and cool toned! Maybe my dreams have come true. The downside is the collection is £100.00 so I don’t think I can justify that any time soon! But look at the pretty packaging! 💜

Unless the kind folks at Superdrug would like to send me it to review 😉. Joking of course, a girl can dream!

Have you picked up any of the new collection? What about the other collaborations Revolution have done? What did you think? Let me know in the comments below!

Misfit Cosmetics Blackhead Extraction Paste

Misfit Cosmetics Blackhead Extraction Paste

IMG_20180516_073652.jpg

So I have just found out the worst news! I got this Blackhead Extraction Paste a few weeks ago and I’ve been planning this review since then but wanted to form a proper opinion before posting.

I go to link the product and I’ve found, to my dismay, that it’s no longer available! 😭

When I bought this, Misfit Cosmetics had an amazing deal on. I got all 4 tubes for £3.99! They are a cruelty free brand too which makes them all the better! 💜

I noticed this blowing up in social media so of course I had to try it!

Although, you won’t get any selfies I’m afraid – I’ve not yet mastered that art without looking like a total idiot! 🤣

I’ve always been bothered by blackheads across my nose. It’s so bad that I never got the nose piercing I always wanted as it would just draw attention to them.

I love a good squeeze and there were times I would bruise my skin and make my face an utter mess by going to town on them.

I’ve tried lots of products that claim to remove blackheads but nothing has really worked for me in the past. Until now that is!

IMG_20180516_073350.jpg

The paste is very, very black and a little definitely goes a long way! It’s quite sticky when applying it and can sometimes stick to itself so you’re left with patches.

I found the best way to apply it was to blob it quite thickly on my problem bits and spread it from there.

It dries mega quick, long within the 20-30 minutes it recommends you keep it on for. Moving you face is almost impossible once it’s set without disturbing the product.

Peeling it off is definitely the fun bit! It’s says to avoid eyebrows and I can see why, it’s fairly painful to take off where there’s any hair as it adheres so well – I wonder how good it would be to wax your eyebrows?! 😲

For the most part, it peels off in one big sheet, but does tend to leave a few flecks behind. I’ve just been removing these with a baby wipe and the jobs a good ‘un!

After use, my skin really is clearer and it feels so, so smooth! I finish of with my toner I mentioned in this post to close my pores.

I really hope they bring this back! It makes me really sad when a product that works get taken off the shelves 😢.

If you missed out on this fantastic product or if you need to stock up, I will be including some in the giveaway I will be hosting once my blog reaches 200 followers!

Let me know in the comments what other products you would like me to include in my giveaway!

Makeup Revoloution Haul – Part 1 – Base

Makeup Revoloution Haul – Part 1 – Base

This is going to be a review in two parts (like you couldn’t tell from the title!) because otherwise it is going to be stupidly long!

My Benefit review was quite long and I don’t want you getting so bored you only make it half way through! 🤣

I’ve got quite a few new Makeup Revoloution products to talk about as I bought a few things from Superdrug and what they never had in stock, I ordered from the Makeup Revoloution website.

I thought we would split them up into Base and Eyes/Lips. If these posts prove to be popular I may do a series focused solely on Makeup Revoloution products. Let me know in the comments if that’s something you would be interested in!

Without further ado…

IMG_20180506_123523

I spoke about the Conceal and Define concealer in my April Favourites so I’m not going to go into this in much detail.

I love this 💜. It doesn’t crease, it applies and blends nicely and doesn’t feel too heavy on my skin even though it is full coverage. Ive found it looks good all day (minimal creasing) and doesn’t feel drying on the skin. Also, any smudging of your mascara can be wiped away fairly easily without disturbing the product too much.

I got this in the shade C1 and it’s perfect for my skin tone – almost blue like a white walker 🤣 – it’s described as being for fair skin tones with a neutral undertone. The shade range is massive and I know of people using darker colours to contour as well but I’ve not tried it myself.

At only £4 for 4g, I think this is a bargain for what it can do!

IMG_20180513_195557.jpg

Who hasn’t heard of the Fast Base Stick Foundation? It has been everywhere on social media! Of course, I had to try it too!

Shade F1 for me. I’ve never tried a stick foundation before so I was quite apprehensive. There was nothing to worry about though.

It is such a creamy formula and it blends great; however it takes a little more effort to blend than liquid foundations. It provides medium to full coverage and lasts all day once set. It does have a very dewy finish so I needed to use a fair bit of setting powder to mattify it to my liking.

It is so easy to apply, literally seconds, so great for when you’re short on time.

This was only £5 but I’m not quite sure how much product you get for that. It does seem like it will last quite a while as a little goes a long way.

IMG_20180513_194531.jpg

I thought I would try the new Revolution Pro Range. From what I can tell, the products are slightly more expensive than their “basic range” but they are not expensive for the quality of the products when compared to other brands.

The Correcting Primer works well to minimise redness. It feels quite thick for a primer so I would only use it for areas that needed the colour correcting (sometimes this is my whole face!) And would use another primer for the rest of my face.

It isn’t noticeable under your foundation and doesn’t make it go cakey. On the other hand, I don’t necessarily think it makes your foundation last like other types of primers do.

This comes in 3 shades: green, peach and cool pink. I have only tried the green one and to be honest I’ve never really known the purpose of the rest of the colours used for colour correcting.

It costs £7 for 25ml and it will last for a long time as it’s only really for spot applications so I think it’s worth the money if it’s needed but you could just use a normal primer under your foundation instead.

I found the Full Cover Camouflage Concealer was a much thicker consistency than the Conceal and Define. It still blended out nicely, though it felt heavier on my skin.

Again, I got this in the shade C1 and it matched me well; however, I don’t feel like it was completely full coverage like what I was expecting but it did brighten my under eye effectively.

I found it creased slightly more through the day and it oxidised a bit as it dried down.

This is £5 for 8.5ml which I consider cheap for a drugstore product especially when it can compete with higher-end products.

I think I’m more likely to stock up on the Conceal and Define than this one just because of the consistency of it didn’t feel as nice for me.

Maker:0x4c,Date:2017-10-28,Ver:4,Lens:Kan03,Act:Lar01,E-Y

I also picked up the Full Cover Camouflage Foundation, again in the lightest shade – F1. I was really dubious about this at first. I tried it on the back of my hand and it dried down really pink. Checked the website and it’s definitely for neutral undertone!

Luckily when I applied it to my face it was fine – no pink face for me! This is quite a thick foundation. Again, like the concealer, it’s not as full coverage as I thought it would be but it is buildable to full coverage.

It feels quite thick but it blends well and lasts all day. I noticed that’s it’s quite dry so I need to use a good primer and moisturise well so it still looks good.

At £7 for 25ml, this won’t break the bank. I like this foundation but as it’s quite heavy I will probably keep this as stage makeup rather than for everyday wear.

Maker:0x4c,Date:2017-10-28,Ver:4,Lens:Kan03,Act:Lar01,E-Y

The last product I bought was Crème Highlight and Contour Kit in the shade light. It has two sticks one for contour and the other for highlight. Each stick is double-ended and has a warm and a cool shade.

This also comes with a double-ended tool for blending the product. It has a blending sponge on one end and a brush on the other.

I’ve never used the tool because I keep forgetting I have it, I also like to keep things the same as much as I can for testing new products so I give them a fair chance.

Cream contour was another thing I hadn’t tried until I used this. I really like this product and think I’m a complete convert from powder contour!

I only use a light hand with this but it is possible to build this up to provide a darker contour. It blends quite well and doesn’t look cakey or muddy on my skin.

As I set my face with a translucent powder most of the time, I don’t feel like I get the best from the highlight. It applies nicely and blends well like the contour stick but as soon as you try to set your face it sticks to the place the highlight is and looks quite cakey. I feel like if I didn’t need to set my face this would be a perfect subtle highlight.

Because of my paleness, I tend to use the cooler shades of both the contour and the highlight. The warmer ones just don’t look quite right on me which is a shame as they are very pretty.

This is £15, I think I picked it up in one of the Superdrug promotions where they do 3 for 2 so I got it for a bit cheaper than that. I’m not sure I would buy it again at full price, only because I will only use half of the product.

I would love it if they made a cool tone double-ended stick so I could buy it separately! If they do already, let me know as I’ve never seen it!

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed this one, let me know if you did! Part two will be coming up shortly!

Fortune Favours the Brave Eyeshadow Palette

April Favourites

Lush Favourites! 💜

Lush Favourites! 💜

So, I used to hate Lush…there, I said it… I hated them!

I didn’t get the hype, they were overpriced and so pretentious.

Oh, how wrong I was!

I started using Lush last year. I had just gotten over an infection which left a lot of scarring/bruising on my leg. My friend was working there and she gave me some samples of moisturiser to try – Dream Cream, Charity Pot and Sympathy for the Skin.

I used them all! The next few times I went to Edinburgh I spent a small fortune on different products and feel like I have been using them enough to have some favourite staple products I never want to live without!

IMG_20180501_072818
Sympathy for the Skin – Hand and Body Lotion – £6.50/100g

1) “Please allow me to introduce myself, I’m a cream of wealth and taste. A rich cream of cocoa butter and bananas to soften the skin.”

I have been told the banana promotes healing. I found this one gave me the best results with my leg. It prevents it from drying out and it doesn’t make it sting like some other creams. It has a lovely consistency that gets absorbed easily without leaving the skin really greasy. I have even started using it on my face before I put my makeup on to prevent my dry skin from ruining my makeup look!

IMG_20180501_072830
Roots – Hair Treatment – £11.50/225g

2) “The route to mighty fine hair. Fine hair needs careful looking after. This treatment is packed full of ingredients to revitalise from root to tip.”

I have very fine hair and not very much of it. Recently, I’ve developed a dry patch on my scalp too and it gets greasy so quickly! I wish I was one of those lucky girls who didn’t have to wash their hair everyday! I use this stuff once a week and I’ve found a massive difference. My hair feels softer and stronger and my scalp has noticibly improved. It also smells beautiful (minty!) and I can smell it on my hair the whole day!

img_20180501_072847.jpg
Oatifix – Fresh Face Mask – £7.50/75g

3) “Cleanse, soften and moisturise dry, sensitive skin.”

I adore this mask! You keep it in the fridge so it’s nice and cold when you put it on your face. My skin is usually a bit red and blotchy but this calms it down for a little while after I use it. It exfoliates as your cleaning it off too and leaves the skin looking healthy and glowing.

IMG_20180501_072838
Dark Angels – Face and Body Cleanser – £7.50/100g

4) “Designed for those who want a more exfoliating, absorbent cleanse.”

I have a sort of love/hate relationship with this one. It makes my skin feel so clean and soft but I can’t use it if I’m in a rush. It takes ages to wash off! It’s charcoal which you add some water to to make a paste that you smear on your face. It really does feel like it’s cleansing your skin but if you don’t have a mirror you’re not getting it off your face!

IMG_20180501_072731

What? No bath bombs, I hear you cry! I love the idea of the bath bombs, I really do but the one that I tried left my bath in such a mess and I had glitter everywhere for ages that it’s put me off a little. It did have some pretty colours though…

IMG_20171231_172821
Yup, it is a 🦄 bath plug!

I’ve included the website here but I would suggest going into the store. The staff are always so friendly -sometimes a little too friendly – and you can try the products before you spend your money on them.

As always, if you’re enjoying my posts, please comment/share/follow etc. I would really appreciate the feedback.

My Makeup Box

My Makeup Box

15247304504821668748707

Yep, that is a toolbox! I had been looking for a makeup case for ages. My partner and I were walking round B&Q and this beauty caught his eye! I think he was sick of me moaning about searching for a makeup case!! So this was my Christmas present last year.

I needed something tough, portable and, ideally, fit my entire collection. I also needed some extra space to keep wigs and small props for when I’m on stage.

It splits into 3 sections and the top can be taken off and transported on its own safely.

1524730697133189533355
The messy top section – I have so many foundations!

The top section holds my base products – foundation, concealer, primer, contour, eyebrow powder – lip products and mascara because I use that for any makeup look.

1524730943504717316182
The middle section – the dividers can be moved around to get the perfect layout

The middle holds the majority of my eyeshadow pallettes, brushes and the contents of my Makeup Revolution Lip Vault that I can’t bear to take out of the packaging! This lifts up to reveal…

1524731159372779287463
The bottom section – looking a bit empty just now!

The bottom holds pallets that are too big to fit in the other sections and any props/wigs I might need to carry with me for a show.

The clips are really sturdy and the case itself is super tough. It has wheels and a handle to tow it like a suitcase too.

It is perfect 💜. My only worry is my makeup is expanding at such a phenomenal rate, I may need another!

The best part about it, it’s made by a company called MAC – obviously not the one we all know from the beauty counter but it still makes me giggle!

As always, please like/comment on this post if you enjoyed reading it! ☺️

Makeup Revolution London Fortune Favours the Brave Eyeshadow Pallette – review and swatches

Makeup Revolution London Fortune Favours the Brave Eyeshadow Pallette – review and swatches

So I bought this pallette after it caught my eye in Superdrug. It cost £9.99 and there are 30 shades. There is a mix of mattes, shimmers and what looks like baked shadows.

I must admit, I was a little disappointed when I first opened it. It came in a cardboard surround with colour samples on the back. The pallette I thought I was getting had a lot more blues/pinks than what is actually in there.

The pan sizes are quite small but it is quite cheap and there is a whack of shades to keep you going so I wouldn’t say this is unexpected!

It also has a nice big mirror and it comes with a brush but I wouldn’t really use this for anything as it’s very rough and doesn’t pick up shadow very well.

Unfortunately I’ve lost the insert for this pallette so I have no idea of the shade names. Who can keep these for longer than a week anyway?

Enough talk – let’s see some terrible looking swatches!

Top row –

I think the top portion of this pallette is my least used.

1st and 3rd colours barely show up on my super pale skin. The first has a slight shimmer but even using a wet brush, it doesn’t do much.

2nd one in makes a really nice transition shade.

The one I really like from this row is the first blue shade. It has a vein of gold running through it which gives a lovely shimmer to the eye.

Second row –

This 1st shadow on this row is great for the inner corners. It has a beautiful, understated shimmer – perfect for everyday.

The copper is out of this world pigmented! This is one of the baked looking ones. It looks great with a dry or wet brush and really gives a pop of colour!

Third row –

So this is the row I mostly use for my work look if I’m using this pallette.

The palest shade in the middle is the same colour as my skin so use this to set my primer/concealer before putting down my first transition.

I use the browns to build up colour and tend to smoke it out using the darker colours from this row. The colours blend really well and I think this row gives the most consistent colour pay off.

Fourth row –

So this one has some nice inner corner highlights and some darker shades to add depth to a smokey eye.

Again, although not a baked one, the copper on this row has a great depth to the colour and looks really bright.

Final thoughts – I was really apprehensive at first but I have come to really like this pallette. With exception of a few colours, they blend really nicely and are quite pigmented. There’s a wide mix of colours to make it great for every day looks and more intense night time looks.

Some colours are quite patchy and look different on my skin than what they do in the pan but all in all for £9.99 I really think it’s worth it! And because of the use I have gotten from this pallette I would give it 8.5/10!
